Site News : Happy New Year from Quantum Flux!

Wishing everyone the best for 2007 from all of us here at QFlux.org...it’s been quite a year and here is what is on the horizon...

I know news has dropped off a lot on the site over the past while, and I have pretty much vanished from the forums. My mother died a few months ago, and my daughter Alexandra (11 months now!) had the start of what could be a seizure disorder. She has stabilized now, and we are hoping it is something she will grow out of, but it is still too soon to tell.

But as always I’m still working away at the VIM when I get a chance; I have two new projects on the coding table. The first is another big one; I’m calling it VI Tribes or something like that. I’ve made a model of an Australopithecus something, and have a multi-animation engine that can drive over 100 of these creatures. The goal is to give each one its own matrix, and watch evolution of behavior on a large scale. I’m finally getting help on this on, Audrey (from the site here) is going to be helping out with the coding and design.

The second project is going back to the core of the VIM projects - the QFE or Quantum Flux Engine. Over the years there have been many discussions about getting a more direct demonstration of what it does, and I kind of miss working with the “spooky” aspect of all this. As some of you know the QFE is a randomness generator, but the randomness can be collapsed by changes in the electric field around your computer. I’m coding a very raw example of this; basically you have a ball bearing that is rolling around a room, its movement driven by the QFE. By placing your hands over different parts of the keyboard/computer, you can change how the ball rolls, and the game is to get the ball to drop down a hole. And if you are really good you can just think about where you want the ball to go....:)!

So VI Mind - what good is Quantum Flux without at least one irrational project!

Happy New Year,

Michael
