Welcome to QFlux.org, a daily news site which will focus on the current state of machine intelligence, and quickly wander into ideas about human intelligence, consciousness, brain function, the ethics of AI, computer/brain interfaces... I'm sure you see the trend. QFlux.org is part of Quantum Flux, a machine intelligence project led by myself, Michael A. Colicos, Ph.D., a neuroscientist currently developing an interface between living neuronal networks and silicon chips. Quantum Flux has been releasing projects such as the Virtual Intelligence Matrix since 1999, and this site is an evolutionary step from QFlux.net, its current home. The long term goal of this work is to develop a machine intelligence with the creative properties of the human mind. With the majority of current medical and scientific research now available in electronic form, such a construct can hopefully be applied to solving medical and scientific challenges.

The stories you will be reading on QFlux.org will be collected by a very special group of people. Seven of my colleagues, from diverse scientific backgrounds ranging from neuroscience to satellite engineering, will be contributing news stories of interest to them. I'm sure you'll get to know their individual styles and interests, and we hope to provide a forum for discussion of issues that are becoming increasingly relevant in today's rapidly advancing technological society. In addition to the daily news stories, I will be presenting a daily column entitled "A Walk in the Forest". Through the many years on QFlux.net I have presented the underlying theories and models of human intelligence and brain function that are at the core of the Quantum Flux software. This column will be a more organized presentation of the ideas behind the software, and one that I hope you find interesting. So once again welcome to QFlux.org, and we hope you enjoy the site!
